Mealworm Labs

What happens when mealworms eat food?

This is a two day lab. In day one we measured the mass of the mealworms and the food. In day two we measured the mass of the food, the mealworms, and the mealworm waste.

It turns out, some matter from the food went into the atmosphere. In our next lab we will try to figure out what is going on with this "missing" matter.

How do mealworms lose weight?

In this lab we place mealworms into a container with BTB and cobalt chloride. Over the course of one day, the mealworms lose mass. Matter from the mealworms moves into the atmosphere.

BTB and cobalt chloride are chemical indicators that tell us about the change in matter in the atmosphere.
